There is about 1Mb of graphics data on this page. This page is a work in progress and I will make changes from time to time.
These are some pictures I have taken during my various backpacking and other trips. I used a PaperPort scanner and the accompanying software to scan in the following photographs. Some doctoring of the photos did take place. I have a Pentax WR-90 35mm camera. It is water resistant and has a remote control.
This picture (above) was taken in August, I think, of 1996 near Castle Crags State Park, southwest of Dunsmuir, California, south of Mt. Shasta, below. This is my full (and heavy) backpack.

It looks like this picture was taken on August 28, about 6:51 pm. I was on my way to a friend's in Lake Shastina. The haziness is from a fire that raged near the Oregon border. Mt. Shasta is shown from the west (looking east, generally) in this photo. You can see the baby volcano on the west side of Shasta.
These are pitcher plants, Darlingtonia californica. I was on a day trip south of Castle Crags when I ran into a meadow that was really a bog. Pitcher plants are carniverous plants that trap insects for their nitrogen. The bog these plants were in had a flowing stream through it that, I guess, removed all or most of the available nitrogen in the soil. Without the fertilizer, the pitcher plants may have had less competition. Plus, the pitcher plants have to contend with altitude and the cold winters.

This is a close up of a pitcher plant. Due to digitization, the photo looks a bit grainy. I think it shows the plant's features pretty well.

The following series of shots are some of my favorites. The line of granite rocks in the foreground is the west side of Castle Crags. Mt. Shasta is in the background. Grey Rocks is off to the viewer's left about a mile or so, I guess. This picture was taken August 26, 1996 at about 2:28 pm.

After my camping adventure, I finally got to wash up in this stream with the pool in the foreground. Digitization strikes again, but I think it's a pretty good shot. I also dipped my camera here (see above) to get the dust off of it.

Here is another series of pretty good shots. This is Mono Lake from the south on New Year's Day 1997. Because of the rain, you can see rainbows over the lake. With the tufa, I think it makes for a nice photo. I did enhance some of these photos, but the balance is pretty good.

In 1997, I accompanied the Sierra Club Sierra Singles on a Memorial Day trip to Yosemite. I though it would be crowded and uncomfortable there. I was wrong. Except for Glacier Point, the crowds were tolerable. I think the bus idea and limiting access (with equal opportunity) is a good idea.
This is a photo shot looking west from Four Mile Trail. I think that's El Capitan on the right.

This is me at the top of Yosemite Creek. The remote control on my camera comes in handy sometimes. I think Sentinel Rock is in the background, past the creek. A small falls comes after the creek (where the water disappears) . . .

. . . then there's a real BIG falls. I love my lugsoles.

This is a picture of Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls. The first picture with the creek, above, was taken about 100 yards from the top of the falls. The wind is blowing the water from the upper falls into the air, holding it there. This picture was taken from Four Mile Trail.
Later that year, I went to Glen Aulin campground in Tuolumne Meadows. This is the falls, there, with some digitization marks.

That's about it, so far. I like California poppies, so here are some pictures of one.
